H2Low's and Hi's

Swimming had it's highs and lows this week. Anna was only practicing this week, getting ready for the Indiana Age Group State meet. Relays came out, and she is swimming the 200 medley relay as well. The great news is that Will is swimming in the free relay and the medley relay; he finally gets to wear the state team cap! On Saturday he tried to an individual cut, but he just suffered one of those off days and added time in every race. Anna showed some maturity and learning when really felt bad for him when he didn't achieve an individual. It helped her to understand what we go through as parents every time they get in the water.

I'm Hurtin'

I took the week off from running to rest my right leg. On Tuesday morning I woke to zero leg pain, so I jumped to the conclusion that I had been experiencing a muscle knot and it finally released. My knee still hurt a bit, but I figured that was because of altered walking and I would do the right thing and wait until Saturday to test it. I was a good runner and waited for Saturday. The kids were gone, so Jil and I spent Friday night out of town. I was ready to test the leg, I love to run with Jil, and I love to explore new places on the run; the stars were aligned. Jil and I went out for and easy 5 miles. I felt good, but felt a little twinge here, then a little twinge there. I thought I was just being overly sensitive to every little thing. The run went fine, but after finishing the pain started to come back; I guess it wasn't the stars, but the perfect storm. Happy Together

Every year brings certain milestones to us. We all experience birthdays, which of course marks our increasing age. We also experience anniversaries of many events. This past weekend was full of milestones for me. My wife and I shared our wedding anniversary and two days later, I marked another birthday. This year neither event was a milestone date, other than the passing of another year. The birthday was a normal workday with work and our regular busy schedules, but the anniversary was special, in what some may consider a little twisted. So how was the anniversary special? It began like just like any other fall Saturday with Jil and I splitting up. I headed off to a nearby community to support Anna at a cross country meet while Jil stayed home to make sure Will got to his playoff football game on time. Travelin

As I look back I noticed that I missed posting for the entire month of March. I think I can explain the reasons for that, but unfortunately, the frequency of posting also reflects the my running activity. Luckily it was not a perfect mirror image. I have achieved some sort of work/life balance, but not the preferred type as I have been overloaded on each end. March was championship swimming for club, spring break in Washington DC, and a business trip to Romania. Anyone of these things in itself would not have derailed my training, but putting all in the same month is a different story! Peles Castle, Romania March was going to be the month that I got everything back on track. Week 1 went by: no runs. Week 2 started off on the right foot with a pre-travel run with my wife. I packed all of my gear for my 2 week tip to Romania, because I was sure that I would have time. I even made the trip with zero jet lag, so what could go wrong. 11 hour days and group dinners left my gear teasing
