Puffy Little Shoes: Asics Gel-Landreth 5

Finally, the long awaited day arrived. Time to get new shoes. I probably waited too long, but after having to get out of my last pair of Brooks Glycerin 5's after foot injuries and only 200 miles, I decided I wanted to get my moneys worth out of the Asics Landreth 4's. And boy did I. Because of budgeting and trying to maximize my discounts at The Running Company, I ended up putting 530+ miles in them. The uppers still looked good, but I had worn through some of the rubber on the soles and the ride was getting pretty firm. But I also didn't have injury issues either. Regardless, the time has come to retiree another pair and move on.

Since I haven't run any more than on the sidewalk outside the store, I really can't give a fair review, but I will after I put out some miles. They did feel really soft compared to the 4, but don't know if that is because of a shoe design change, or the fact that my 4's were really beyond their life.

I did try both a pair of Mizuno Wave Creation and a pair of Nike Zoom Vromero 4. The Nikes felt a little narrow in the fore foot and I think would have left me with numb feet after a couple of miles but I think the Mizunos would have worked. In the end, I went for the last and upper that I was used to. It didn't hurt that the accent color is....orange.

I'm Hurtin'

I took the week off from running to rest my right leg. On Tuesday morning I woke to zero leg pain, so I jumped to the conclusion that I had been experiencing a muscle knot and it finally released. My knee still hurt a bit, but I figured that was because of altered walking and I would do the right thing and wait until Saturday to test it. I was a good runner and waited for Saturday. Happy Together

Every year brings certain milestones to us. We all experience birthdays, which of course marks our increasing age. We also experience anniversaries of many events. This past weekend was full of milestones for me. My wife and I shared our wedding anniversary and two days later, I marked another birthday. This year neither event was a milestone date, other than the passing of another year. The birthday was a normal workday with work and our regular busy schedules, but the anniversary was special, in what some may consider a little twisted. So how was the anniversary special? It began like just like any other fall Saturday with Jil and I splitting up. I headed off to a nearby community to support Anna at a cross country meet while Jil stayed home to make sure Will got to his playoff football game on time. Travelin

As I look back I noticed that I missed posting for the entire month of March. I think I can explain the reasons for that, but unfortunately, the frequency of posting also reflects the my running activity. Luckily it was not a perfect mirror image. I have achieved some sort of work/life balance, but not the preferred type as I have been overloaded on each end. March was championship swimming for club, spring break in Washington DC, and a business trip to Romania. Anyone of these things in itself would not have derailed my training, but putting all in the same month is a different story! Peles Castle, Romania March was going to be the month that I got everything back on track. Week 1 went by: no runs. Week 2 started off on the right foot with a pre-travel run with my wife. I packed all of my gear for my 2 week tip to Romania, because I was sure that I would have time.
